Compass Sessions as Navigational Assistance
More than 500 visitors from 39 countries visited Compass Sessions at drupa
in 2008. They came to gather information on trends and developments in the
graphics industry in advance of their drupa visit. "As exspected our Compass
Session on printed electronics was very well booked", says Bernd Adam of the
organizing Print & Media Forum AG, "in fact we where completely sold out".
But also other topics during the 11 days like digital printing, offset
printing, prepress and digital workflow have been very well received by the
participants. With a share of 56%, visitors from abroad where in the
majority, 44% of the participants came from Germany.
Printed Electronics conference at drupa 2008
The Printed Electronics conference on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, offers an
in-depth look into the world of organic and printed electronics.
Representatives of leading international companies in this field present
their latest results for printing process, materials, applications and
initial products.
The combination of mass printing processes with new functional materials
produces a new type of electronics: thin, light, flexible and extremely
economical to manufacture. Printed electronics opens up new business
segments in the printing industry, including intelligent packaging that
contains flexible displays, batteries, RFID tags or sensors for monitoring
product quality. Other important applications for organic electronics range
from brand, copy and theft protection, to packaging for medications that
helps patients to take their medicine regularly or interactively adjust
individual dosage levels.
„As the world’s leading trade show for the printing industry, drupa is an
extremely important marketplace that enables us to inform the printing
industry about these revolutionary technologies and introduce new
applications,“ said Wolfgang Mildner, CEO of OE-A and Managing Director of
PolyIC GmbH & Co. KG. „The first printed electronics products are now on the
market and this field is developing very dynamically.“ Thomas Mayer, Chief
Executive of bvdm, welcomed the partnership. „We’re delighted to work
together with OE-A at this prestigious event. Showcasing new markets and
application fields for printing and media service providers is one of our
key tasks,“ Mayer said. §An§The next step will be to work together with our
members to develop appropriate business models.“
Printed electronics unites the world of print with the world of electronics.
But what does this mean for printers? What are the special materials,
equipment and processing requirements? What applications are possible, and
what can be expected in the future? These and other questions will be
addressed by guest speakers including Thomas Walther (MAN Roland), Martin
Schoeppler (Fujifilm Dimatix), Prof. Dr. Harri Kopola (VTT Technical
Research Centre), Wolfgang Mildner (PolyIC), Adam Laubach (GSI
Technologies), Prof. Dr. Arved Hübler (printed systems) and Dr. Michael
Heckmeier (Merck Chemicals).
Compass Sessions dealing with digital workflow
This year two days have been scheduled right from the start for sessions
dealing with the digital workflow. PDF, Automation, Workflow, JDF/CIP4 and
Color Management are hot topics in the print media industry. Choose your
date for the digital workflow! Take 31st May or 9th June - or book both.
Compass Sessions — Navigational Assistance to
the Print Media Industry
After a successful start during drupa 2004 the German Printing and Media
Industries Federation (bvdm) once again offers its Compass Sessions at the
upcoming drupa 2008. Compass Sessions are daily, two hour panels covering
current topics on technology and new business models in the print media
industry. The Compass Sessions are being organized by the Print & Media
Forum AG.
Compass Sessions have been conducted at drupa 2004 for the first time and
were very well visited. "We are happy having had more than 500 participants
attending our Compass Sessions over 11 days at drupa 2004", says Bernd Adam
of the organizing Print & Media Forum AG. "The international approach has
been very well accepted with more than half of the participants coming from
abroad." Most of the participants registered for participation directly at
drupa. More than 39 speakers from 5 countries spoke on 9 topics. Especially
the panels on JDF, network production, offset printing and prepress have
raised most interest.
Again for drupa 2008 a state of the art schedule has been developed. The
panel on "printed electronics" will be one of this years highlights. This
panel is being organized together with the Organic Electronics Association
(www.oe-a.org) on 4th June. Accompanied by a small breakfast Compass
Sessions are the ideal start into the drupa day. Apart from gaining first
class knowledge the sessions also are a good opportunity the meet and talk
to colleagues.
Compass Sessions will take place from 9 to 11 o'clock nearly every day in
the Congress Center Ost. Every session will consist of four half hour
speeches. Conference languages are English and German (simultaneous
translation).
